National Day of Reflection: Wednesday 23rd March

The 3 Churches Benefice is supporting the National Day of Reflection on 23 March, the first anniversary of the UK lockdown, to commemorate this tragic loss of life and to stand together with everyone who’s grieving.

Organised by Marie Curie, the National Day of Reflection looks to reflect on our collective loss, support those who’ve been bereaved, and hope for a brighter future.

Join us at St Mary the Virgin, St Margarets for a Midday Service of Reflection. It will be a short service of prayer, music and reflection.

Everyone welcome!

Rev’d Dr Sarah Forrest

CPRE Hertfordshire Awards back for 2022

Our ambition for the Awards is to recognise and celebrate inspirational people engaged in activities that enhance and protect the Hertfordshire countryside and its rural communities.

After pausing our awards in 2021 due to the pandemic, we are delighted that the CPRE Hertfordshire Awards are back. With a closing date of 31st May 2022, we would love to receive nominations for projects which

  • connect people with the countryside and their local green spaces
  • promote rural life and ensure that communities can thrive
  • improve or protect the environment

Nominees might be volunteer-based projects or events, community groups, individuals, or small businesses.

And we have an exciting new category, ‘Made in Herts’ which will recognise excellence in sustainable farming and local foods, products using local materials, or traditional craftspeople and artists, in particular working in rural areas or with rural themes.

We also hope to make an Award for an outstanding project or activity run by or on behalf of young people (up to the age of 21) in the categories above.

Find out all the details by visiting our website: CPRE Hertfordshire Awards – CPRE Hertfordshire (cpreherts.org.uk), be inspired by past Award recipients, and make a nomination today!

Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, which invites people from across the United Kingdom to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’.

Whether you’re an individual hoping to plant a single sapling in your garden, a community group planting a large tree or a City Council intending to plant a whole avenue of trees to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the QGC website provides all the information you need to plan and deliver your project. For more information, check out the QGC website.

The best time to plant trees is from October to March, which is when you can pin your Jubilee tree to the QGC map. Upload your planting and inspire others to get involved.

Here at The Three Villages, we would love to hear about any trees planted as part of this initiative, so please do be in touch with any stories/photos.
