An Evening of Outstanding Folk Music in Stanstead Abbotts

On Sunday 18 January 2026, Stanstead Abbotts Concert Society is delighted to welcome Terence Blacker and Kath Tait, joined by Sally Vinson.

Taking place at Stanstead Abbotts Parish Hall, this promises to be a real treat for lovers of folk, acoustic music and live performance.

Event Details
The concert will be held at Stanstead Abbotts Parish Hall, Roydon Road, SG12 8BU. Doors open at 7.00pm, with the performance starting at 7.30pm.

Performers
Terence Blacker and Kath Tait will perform, with support from Sally Vinson. The event is presented by the Stanstead Abbotts Concert Society and supported by the English Folk Dance and Song Society.

An Evening of Wonderful Music with the Beds and Herts Historic Churches Trust

Enjoy the Galliard Trio playing Beethoven, Elgar, Dvorak, Vaughan Williams and more in the beautiful, historic church of St Mary’s, Ware.

The concert starts at 7.00 pm on Saturday, 4th October. It is followed by light refreshments and the chance to meet and talk with the musicians.

The event is in aid of the Beds and Herts Historic Churches Trust and St Mary’s Church.

Madrigals at Amwell Pool

Madrigals at Amwell Pool, the wonderful annual music event is just around the corner!

WHEN: Friday 20th June, 9–10.30pm
WHERE: Amwell Pool, Lower Road, Great Amwell

The Haileybury Chamber Choir and Choral Society will sing at this long-established event, by the banks of the river in the beautiful village of Great Amwell. The music and stunning setting makes the evening truly magical. This will be the 85th Madrigals Concert!

All welcome. No tickets required.

As usual, there will be a collection in aid of Isabel Hospice.

Celebrate the summer at St James’ Church!

Cream Teas and Churchyard Tours
On Saturday and Sunday, come and enjoy a delicious cream tea in the beautiful setting of this ancient church. Free churchyard tours offer a fascinating exploration into the rich history of the church and those who are laid to rest there. Please do bring along cash as the card machine may be temperamental!

‘Songs for a Summer Afternoon’ Concert
At 4pm on Saturday 14th, join us for a special concert by the Priory Choir. It will be a wonderful festival of delightful summer songs! The performance will take place in the church. Tickets for the performance will cost £10 per person with all profits going towards the upkeep of St James’. To book your tickets for ‘Songs for a Summer Afternoon’, please got to EventBrite. Although there are some tickets available on the door, we would recommend you book in advance!

St James’ is a redundant church in the care of the Churches Convervation Trust. The Friends of St James’ Church, a group of dedicated local volunteers, organises a wide range of events during the year, as well as helping to keep the church open to visitors during the summer months. Stanstead Abbotts Concert Society will be holding their next music event on Sunday 18th May.

Pete Morton
‘Pete Morton is a singer and entertainer who is often referred to as an old time troubadour. He delivers an unruly freewheeling mix of storytelling, comedy and song that weaves it’s way around the folk tradition. His current show ‘The Ghost of a Sailor’s talking blues’ is a joyful ramble through time (not necessarily in the right order!), in the style of the talking blues, as well as unleashing popular singalong chorus from the last 400 years. Originally from Leicester, England, Pete discovered the acoustic music scene at 16, and has been on the never-ending tour internationally ever since. With his powerful, euphonious voice storytelling and compelling stage presence he continues his merry niche, singing songs and entertaining with a fun-loving and approachable style.’ (Source: https://www.petemorton.com/)

Noel Robinson performing at Hertfordshire Studios!

Noel Robinson is a London born singer, songwriter, guitarist and worship leader. Noel ministers internationally, which allows him to travel extensively around the world, leading, teaching and training worshippers in diverse settings. Noel’s heart is to see the Church empowered and revived as agents of change and transformation in this world.

Noel primarily plays and mixes Contemporary Christian Music style with gospel music. He has released five studio albums: O Taste and See (1996); Worthy in This Place (2001) with Nu Image; Garment of Praise (2006) with Nu Image; Devoted (2013); and Outrageous Love, a live album (2015).

He is performing at the Hertfordshire Studios, Brewery Road, Hoddesdon, EN11 8HF on Friday 25th April, 1–2pm (doors open 12.30pm).

Entrance is free, but donations welcome.

Christina Alden & Alex Patterson are multi-instrumentalists and songwriters from East Anglia. Their music is rich with intertwining harmony, sensitive accomplished musicianship and a creative song-writing style that is both delicate and moving. Deeply inspired by the world around them, they have a keen environmental eye to craft stories with the natural world at its heart, reflecting on the relationship between humans and the wild.

Harvest is a time of thanksgiving for the harvest and all the food that comes from the land. The 3 Churches Benefice has a number of different services over Harvest and would love to invite you to join them…

Harvest Songs of Praise
WHEN: Sunday 15th September
WHERE: St John the Baptist Church, Great Amwell

On Sunday 15th September, from 6.30pm, join us for Harvest Songs of Praise at St John the Baptist. Refreshments of cider and cheese will be served afterwards.

Harvest Festival
WHEN: Sunday 22nd September
WHERE: St James’s Church and Stanstead Bury Farm, Stanstead Abbots

A Harvest Festival will be held on Sunday 22nd September! Join us for an 11am Benefice Service of Thanksgiving at St James. This will replace the normal 10.30am service at St Andrew’s.
