How are you celebrating the Harvest?

Harvest is a time of thanksgiving for the harvest and all the food that comes from the land. The 3 Churches Benefice has a number of different services over Harvest and would love to invite you to join them…

Harvest Songs of Praise
WHEN: Sunday 15th September
WHERE: St John the Baptist Church, Great Amwell

On Sunday 15th September, from 6.30pm, join us for Harvest Songs of Praise at St John the Baptist. Refreshments of cider and cheese will be served afterwards.

Harvest Festival
WHEN: Sunday 22nd September
WHERE: St James’s Church and  Stanstead Bury Farm, Stanstead Abbots

A Harvest Festival will be held on Sunday 22nd September! Join us for an 11am Benefice Service of Thanksgiving at St James. This will replace the normal 10.30am service at St Andrew’s. This will be followed by lunch at Stanstead Bury Farm featuring locally grown food and drink. To book tickets for lunch (£15), visit https://tinyurl.com/4hm4395x.

All Age Harvest Service
WHEN: Sunday 6th October
WHERE: St Andrew’s Church, Stanstead Abbots

Our All Age Sunday Service at St Andrew’s is a great way to bring the family together in celebration of the Harvest. Everyone is welcome!

Madrigals at Amwell Pool: Friday 21st June!

This much-anticipated annual event – Madrigals at Amwell Pool – returns!

WHEN: Friday 21st June, 9–10.30pm
WHERE: Amwell Pool, Lower Road, Great Amwell

The Haileybury Chamber Choir and Choral Society will sing at this long-established event, by the banks of the river in the beautiful village of Great Amwell. The music and stunning setting makes the evening truly magical. This will be the 82nd Madrigals Concert!

All welcome. No tickets required.

There will be a collection in aid of Isabel Hospice.

Forthcoming Events at St John the Baptist Church

There are a few upcoming events at St John the Baptist Church, Great Amwell…

Cream teas at the church
On Sunday 23rd June, from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm, cream teas will be served at St John the Baptist Church. This is to commemorate 100 years since Harold Abrahams, whose grave is in the churchyard, won a gold medal for winning the 100m at the Paris Olympics.

St John the Baptist Patronal Evensong
Also on Sunday 23rd June, St John the Baptist Patronal Evensong will be held at 6.30 pm, followed by smoked salmon and Pimm’s.

South African braai (barbecue)
On Sunday 11th August, at midday, we are holding a South African braai (barbecue) in the churchyard at St John the Baptist. All very welcome!

St Albans Cathedral Music Trust is delighted to invite you to join one or more of the following sessions as we celebrate music in one of Hertfordshire’s hidden gems!

  • 3.30–4.30pm: Organ Recital by Richard Pinel and performances by the Abbey Singers in St James’ Church, followed by refreshments.
  • 4.45–6pm: A visit to the old manor house of Stanstead Bury and its Walled Garden.
  • 6.30–8.15pm: A concert of Jazz and more performed by students from The Purcell School in the listed 17th century rustic hay barn, with drinks and canapes.

6.30pm Jazz concert                 £35*
